

87, of Indianapolis, passed away February 20, 2014. She was born May 19, 1926 in Indianapolis to Leo and Mary (O’Brien) Filcer. She attended St Agnes school for girls and was the valedictorian graduate of Marion College. Patricia (Patty) had a long and fulfilling career as a 1st grade teacher at St. Pius X Catholic School, White River Elementary, and John Strange Elementary School. Retiring from teaching at age 67, she enjoyed working at Brookstone, reading, gardening, playing the piano, and travelling. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at St. Augustine Guild, Little Sisters of the Poor, and Fatima Retreat House. Patricia is survived by her children Julie Ann (Michael) Woods, Susan Michelle Van Wyck, Anne Theresa (Steve) Garrett Sargent MD, John Michael (Karen) Garrett MD, sister Marjorie Stevens, grandchildren Hillary, John, Tom, Shauna, Nicholas, Kathleen, Jon, Brian, Kirsten, James, Rachel and Madeline, great grandchildren Llyr, Claire, Eviana, James, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Kathy Benedict. Her beloved husband Vernon D. Garrett, sisters Mary Jane Lloyd, Delores Forbes, brother, Joseph Leo Filcer, and son-in–law James Van Wyck, precede her in death. Visitation will be Friday, March 14 at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Entombment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Patricia’s name may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or American Cancer Society.
