Born on February 21, 1938, in Washington Township, Indianapolis, Indiana, Patty was the daughter of George B. Spees Sr. and Leah C. (Steele) Aschinger. Patty was preceded in death by her husband George R. Kerr.
Patty lived her life with an unmistakable spark. She was spunky, fun-loving, and full of joy, with a warmth that made everyone feel welcome. She truly never met a stranger. Whether in conversation, at church, or out in the community, she had a gift for turning everyday moments into meaningful connections. Patty had a deep appreciation for style and always dressed in a way that reflected her vibrant personality.
From an early age, Patty expressed a creative spirit. She graduated from Broad Ripple High School (1956) in Indianapolis, where she was a majorette and a member of a social club, and where her outgoing personality and love of fun were already shining through. As a young woman, she made jewelry and later created beautiful stained-glass pieces, showcasing her artistic eye.
Like her mother, Patty was a hairstylist who built not just a client list, but a circle of people who loved her. Her children and grandchildren especially cherish the many haircuts she gave over the years, each one filled with conversation, laughter, and love.
Patty will be remembered as the family historian. She had a remarkable gift for genealogy and took great pride in preserving the stories and connections of the Kerr and Spees families, especially those rooted in the Indianapolis area for over 200 years. Her knowledge and enthusiasm helped keep generations connected.
She also had a beautiful singing voice that graced her church choir and filled the halls of her residence at The Stratford in Carmel. She was a familiar and friendly presence at the Indianapolis Riviera Club’s Swimnastics group, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Patty embraced life fully. She loved keeping up with technology, tending to her flower gardens, feeding the birds, and caring for the many family dogs she adored. She spent many cherished summers as a child and young woman on Lake Freeman with family and friends, water skiing and enjoying the simple pleasures of lake life. She also spent many happy years camping in southern Indiana, creating lasting memories with cherished family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kerr (Stephen); her son, Robert (“Bob”) Kerr; her brother George B Spees, Jr (Marcia); her sister Hazel (Rex) Goble; grandchildren, Jason Nelson (Vanessa), Adam Nelson (Casi), Kyle Nelson (Kerry), Jordan Nelson, Edie Wetzel, and Ava Wetzel; and her beloved great-granddaughters, Harper, Hayden, and Hunter Nelson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Union Chapel-Northview, 2720 East 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240, followed by a funeral service. A graveside committal will take place immediately after at Union Chapel Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather following the services at 12626 Meeting House Road, Carmel, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Patty’s love for her dogs, donations may be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society.
