

Phil was born in Indianapolis April 27, 1957, to Russell and Phyllis Abel. Phil grew up in Indianapolis, graduating from North Central High School in 1975. Phil earned his bachelor's degree from Franklin College, graduating in 1980. He began his printing industry career working at the Indiana State Fair in the publicity and advertising department. He soon moved to Washington DC area and was a partner in a printing business in DC.
Phil met the love of his life and future wife Carolyn while both were working in the DC area. Phil moved with her to Jacksonville, Florida where they married on March 1st, 1997. They moved several times living in Utah, Florida and in Indiana and finally in Hamilton, Indiana where they retired to lake life.
Phil worked for FedEx Office through many moves, retiring from FedEx Office in 2021.
Phil and Carolyn traveled and enjoyed boating, loved spending time on the deck overlooking the lake, grilling and keeping track of the eagles and other birds around their home on Hamilton Lake.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Phyllis Abel.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Carolyn (Bellamy) Abel, his brother David Abel and wife Marcy, his grandson Holden Bellamy, (who he helped to raise), grandson Austin Suel, stepdaughter Elizabeth McGuire, niece Katie Mullins (Adam), nephew Ben Abel (Annie), mother-in-law Patricia Archut, sisters-in-law Darlene Klotz (Karl) and Barbara Dake, and brother-in-law Bryan Bellamy (Kim).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County, Wounded Warriors Project or Franklin College.
A visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery in Remembrance Hall, located at 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46208, on December 6, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location, beginning at 12:00 pm on December 6, 2025.
