

Richard Marion “Dick” Berry, 93, formerly of Houston, TX, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. He was born February 19, 1924 in Belton, MO to the late Thomas M. and Mildred S. Berry. He was born on a farm and loved animals. As a youngster, his job was to feed the chickens. Richard received his Bachelors of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1949. He served in the Army in Europe during WWII and as an instructor at Fort Belvoir, VA during the Korean War. Richard worked as a sales and engineering representative for American Standard and Carrier Houston Company. He was a member of the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston for forty years, participating in many of their programs. Habitat for Humanity and Houston Home Savers were two of his favorite service organizations. After retiring, he spent time tutoring middle school students for the Spring Branch and Houston Independent School Districts and supported various programs for Boys and Girls Country. Richard also spent many hours helping to plant and care for trees and plants at Westchester International School. He loved people of all ages, from all walks of life, and enjoyed interacting with them.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth S. Berry and his son, Richard Alan Berry. He is survived by his daughters, Ann Hird and her husband, Dana, of Cicero, IN and Sandra Berry-Lowe and her husband, Luis, of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Jim Berry of Lebanon, IN; and daughter-in-law, Melinda Berry of Mesquite, TX. He will be missed by his grandsons, John Hird and wife, Andrea, Levy Hird, Richard Berry, and Stephen Berry and friends around the United States.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Wellbrooke of Westfield for their caring attention to Richard’s health, welfare, and happiness for the last four years.

According to his wishes, Richard will be cremated; arrangements have been entrusted to Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary.
