She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Florence (Wieczorek) Fortuna.
Rita graduated from Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, IN Class of 1965 and Marygrove College in Detroit, MI Class of 1969.
Rita's career with the Social Security Administration was a 40 year adventure. Always devoted to the Catholic faith, she was active in various ministries but most importantly the OICA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults). Rita was well-read and a devotee of classical music. She was a wonderful aunt not only to her human nephews but to her sister's beagles and cats.

She will be missed by her sisters, Phyllis (John) Yetsko and Bernadette Fortuna; nephews, Eric Yetsko and Alex Yetsko
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, 1347 N. Meridian, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202. Committal will be 10:00 a.m. CST Friday, July 24, 2026 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois.
