Robert Allan Stackhouse, Major, USAF Reserve (Retired) 93, died peacefully October 18, 2015. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A native of Indianapolis, Bob attended Shortridge High School and later Purdue University where he was a member of the varsity golf team and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He entered the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal for his service flying combat aircraft in the China-Burma-India Theater. He later served in the USAF Reserve during The Korean Conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bob, a lifelong golfer, and his late wife, Janet, were former members of Meridian Hills Country Club and avid bridge players. Bob attained the rank of Silver Life Master during the years following retirement. Bob and Janet were members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Stackhouse was president and owner of A.V. Stackhouse Construction Company, and later worked at the Naval Avionics Facility and was retired from the Civil Service. For over 50 years, Bob was a proud and loyal member of The Service Club of Indianapolis, where he developed and treasured many lifelong friendships. He was perhaps best known and loved for his appreciative disposition, his dry wit and his clever sense of humor. His kindness, optimism and love of life encouraged everyone he knew. Bob is survived by his five children, nine grandchildren and his brother, who are grateful for his life, and his example of great character and integrity.
