

Ruby Elizabeth Compton, 98, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023. She was born on February 1, 1925, to Elizabeth and William Rawlinson in the house on Tabor Street. She was baptized, went to school, and married in 1957 at the former St. Catherine of Sienna church three blocks away on the corner of Shelby and Tabor.
Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and loving aunt; she is survived by her husband (Charles), sons (Charles [Charla], Tom [Nancy], and Steve [Kristin]) and daughter (Elizabeth [Derrick]), her eight grandchildren (Chris, Elijah, Ariel, Nathanial, Joseph, Erik, Chad, and Connor) and four great grandchildren (Avery, Paige, Axel, Cadence). She was preceded in death by her two brothers (William and Kenton), son (John) and grandchild (Craig).
After attending St John’s Academy, Ruby went to work at Holcomb and Hoke for sixteen years. She spoke fondly of her vacations riding the train to New York City, Florida, the Grand Canyon, and California during those years. After the birth of her first child, she stayed home for numerous years to raise five children until she went to work at LS Ayers for thirty plus years.
Ruby enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, ballroom dancing, going to the movies, reading and traveling. Her grand kids were her greatest joy. She is remembered for her humor and her love for whimsical cards and gadgets. She was always extending a helping hand to others.
A visitation will take place on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Feeney Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 5692 N Central Ave, Indianapolis, IN, 46220. Immediately following the Mass, Ruby will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
