Ruth Gore was born on June 7, 1927 in Evansville, Indiana, the second of three children, and the only daughter, of Harold and Mildred Lehnhard. She married James H. Gore, Sr. on May 15, 1948 and was married to him in her heart for the rest of her life. Ruth was his life partner in everything that he did including Gore Christmas Trees. She was the mother of five children: Donna (Ben) Gore Olsen, Mary Jane Gore Golan, Ruth (Mike) Gore Yacko, James (Robin) Harold Gore, Jr., and, Robert (Brenda) Guy Gore. Her older brother Harold survives her. Her parents, her husband, daughter Janie, and younger brother William predeceased her.
Ruth graduated from the Indiana University School of Nursing in 1975 fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse. She worked in the Medical Surgical Unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital and then became the Director of their Endoscopy Department. She later worked as a nurse in the areas of public health, occupational health, home health care, and as PRN for Community Hospital of Indiana. Ruth was the consummate caregiver giving generously of her time and nursing skills to family and friends whenever there was a need.
She is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ben (Tiffany) Olsen IV, James (Lauren) Olsen, Ann (Tyler) Olsen Hollback, Melissa (Derek) Golan Rougeot, Katie (Drew) Golan Hilton, Joseph Golan, Amy Yacko, Michael Yacko, Matthew Yacko, James (Sarah) H. Gore III, Ashley (Andrew) Gore Paquette, Brandon (Erica) Gore, Jonathan (Katie) Gore, Caroline Gore, Elizabeth Gore and Grace Gore. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Tad Sorrell, Logan Sorrell, Hailey Olsen, Brad (Bernhard V) Olsen, Penelope Olsen, and Brayden Hilton.
Ruth is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ruth (Mrs. Frank) Marks, Don and Bev Gore, Bev (Mrs. Thom) Gore, John and Joanne Schmitt and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers for their gentle and kind care of Ruth during her last months of life. Special thanks to Annie, Crystal, Mary, Robin, Tiffany, Demara, Claire, Sarah and Carin and to the staff of Huser Home Care and Community Hospital Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ruth’s name to the Wheeler Mission or to Catholic Charities. The family invites family and friends to join them in a Celebration of Life at a 12:00 Noon Mass on Thursday, October 20th at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 East 56th Street, Indianapolis immediately followed by a visitation with the family at a Peace Meal in the church hall..
