

Stephen was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 25, 1932, the son of the late Obie Jay and Marion Butler Smith.
He graduated from Broad Ripple High School where he was on the track, cross country, and golf teams. He attended Wharton School of Finance, PA and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He was a member of the I. U. track team and Delta Tau Delta.
He served in the United States Air Force as an officer in the Strategic Air Command at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. He began his business career in Commercial Real Estate in Boca Raton, Florida and then moved back to Indianapolis, IN where he was in manufacturing and also a manufacturers representative in the field of energy conservation.
He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He was a member of the Moorings Yacht and Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida and past member of the Royal Palm Country Club, Boca Raton, Florida and Hillcrest Country Club, Indianapolis, IN.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Indianapolis and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach. He has a winter home in Vero Beach, FL and enjoyed traveling, music, golf, and spending time with his children and their families.
Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Tossell Smith who he met at Indiana University and have celebrated 67 joyous years together. He is also survived by his devoted children, Pamela (Greg) Klink, Sheri McKeever, Stephen (Kim) Smith and Daniel Smith. Nine cherished grandchildren, Jordan (Stacy) Klink, Michelle (Josh) Graves, Christina (Matt) Nettleman and David (Logan) Klink. Hope and Chrissy Smith, Taylor and Skylar Smith, Michael McKeever and also seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Obie Jay (Audrey) Smith III.
Stephen will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He will be remembered for his unsurpassed love for his family, generosity, positive attitude, his kindness and his zest for life.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, 11:00am, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6050 N Meridian St. Indianapolis IN. Visitation will be at 10:00am.
A private burial service for the family will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
