Tom is survived by his children: Andrew Ball, Lebanon, IN, Hannah Ball, Saginaw TX. Parents: G. Michael and Lois Ball, Indianapolis, IN and Naples, FL. Sisters: Karen Ball Woods (Ronald), Indianapolis, IN, Deborah Foor (Keith), Indianapolis, IN. Brother: Gregory Ball (Julie), Glenview, IL, six nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved Collie, Piper.
Tom lived in several places throughout his life, and each place played a role in the passions he retained and developed. He first lived in Ann Arbor, MI. While there, he received his first puppy, sparking his lifetime love of dogs. The family then spent two years in Springfield, Virginia, where Tom first learned to ride a bike, an activity he enjoyed through adulthood. Tom lived in Hollywood, Florida during elementary school. In Hollywood he learned to swim and loved being able to play outdoors all year long, being in or around water, riding his bike, playing with the family dog, fishing, and participating in Indian Guides with his father.
Tom then lived in Marion, Indiana, where he graduated from Marion High School in 1985. In Marion, Tom’s natural talent as a drummer emerged and matured. Tom played drums in the high school band, jazz band, and show choir. He also played drums for several productions of the Marion Civic Theatre. He enjoyed playing golf and of course spent a considerable amount of time playing and working with the two family Collies.
After high school, Tom moved to Indianapolis, where his children were born. Tom loved being a father and sharing his interests with his children, including his love of the outdoors and dogs, and his goofy sense of humor. He also played drums with several bands in the area, including “The Roosters Band”.
Tom was quite proficient in computers, and in 2007 he moved to Texas for an opportunity with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. Tom continued to play drums and sing for various area bands and ride his motorcycle in Texas as well as in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. Tom enjoyed fishing and his boat as well as playing poker. Hannah joined Tom in Texas; together they worked with the Texas Collie Rescue organization to rescue and foster Collies. In 9 short years in Texas, they rescued more than 80 Collies.
Although he lived several states away, Tom did not let the pandemic keep him from staying in touch with his family through Zoom, Facetime, and a 16 person text group. With his wonderful sense of humor, Tom could always be counted on to add a witty comment. We all miss him and will remember him forever.
