Tommie was born on January 2nd, 1930 in West Point Mississippi to Wardell and Estella Bowen. He arrived in Indianapolis in the early 1970s.

Tommie worked for Citizens Gas Company for several years. He enjoyed playing cards and watching the Pacer and Colts games.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt and uncle, Robert and Annie Mag Porter, who raised him, as well as his son, Bobby Joe Bowen; daughters, Zoe Ann Garrison and Bernice Coleman.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty; his son, Uriah Bowen (Nadeen); daughters, Letania Brown (Dewayne), Tamia Lysonge (Ekumene), and Janet Brumfield (Thad); 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Tommie will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
