Mr. Tommie Griffin was born September 25, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Earl Lee and Eunice (Dean) Griffin, Jr. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School then enlisted in the United States Air Force.
While in the Air Force he trained airmen on how to load and unload aircrafts and runway techniques. He was stationed in Southeast Asia, Korea, and the Philippines. While in Korea, he and his big brother, Kenneth were known as “ssangdungi”, the Korean word for “twins”. He was instrumental in the building of the A-10 aircraft tank killer. He also had top-secret security clearance. While in the service he played baseball, softball, basketball, and flag football. He and Kenneth were extreme frisbee players. They were awfully competitive with each other. He was also the Squad Leader of his big brother, getting to order him
around.
As a Staff Sergeant and serving nine years in the Air Force, he left the military and lived in Alexandria, Louisiana. He delivered furniture for Aaron’s furniture store and became a manager of his own store. Then became a finance manager with a personal loan company. He was a Freemason in a Masonic lodge in Louisiana.
He was a huge family man. Always taking care of immediate and extended family. He was an avid fisherman just like his mom. He loved coming home to Indianapolis and surprising his family on their birthdays. As his parents’ health started to decline, he moved back home to Indianapolis to help his siblings care for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Ruby Jane Smith, and one brother: Walter Griffin.
Tommie leaves to cherish his memory with 3 sisters: Osa Ford (Chicago, IL), Eloise Moore (Phillip) and Sylvia Griffin; 4 brothers: Earl Lee Griffin III, Curlee (Dee) Griffin, Kenneth Griffin, and Steven Griffin; children, grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
A visitation for Tommie will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM.
