Nécrologie de Virgil Rodney Williams
Virgil Rodney Williams was born on November 11, 1941 in Red Fox, Kentucky to Carlos and Oma (Williams) Williams. He was one of eight children with four brothers and three sister. Rodney graduated from Carr Creek High School in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Army. He served 26 years of service including two tours of duty in Europe (Germany) and active duty in the Middle East as a Dessert Storm Veteran in Saudia Arabia, member of 425 Unit US Army. Through the many stories he shared from his service, the one thing for sure we know is he was a “trained killer” and dedicated his life to service and preserving our freedom and democracy. In addition, Rodney worked for National Starch for over 40+ years. Rodney met Viola early in life during their primary education years in Hazard, Kentucky, and he later married on September 8, 1973, in Indianapolis, Indiana and from their union, they raised three children: David, India and Virgil Rodney II (d’22). Rodney and Viola lived a blessed life traveling all throughout the world to many states and different countries during their 50+ years of marriage. He dedicated his life to God and was baptized and became a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Rodney would frequently meet up with friends and share stories in the breakfast club at White Castle and McDonald’s on Pendleton Pike. He loved to be outdoors and took a lot of pride in landscaping and cutting grass. He had an extensive sports car collection over the years starting with ’69 Chevy Camaro and over the years could be seen as a parade marshal driving VIPs and dignitaries in his red corvette in downtown Indianapolis, something he took a lot of pride in. Rodney was a loving grandfather to ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Veronica, Stahnzia, Elijah, Anthony (Vera), Kiya, Kayden, Victoria, Kaydence, Delaney, and Rorhie. He enjoyed family time and would often spend time on the floor playing with the kids and their toys. Great grandchildren: Chloe, Gia, Rome, Laniyah, Tommy and David. He is preceded in death by his sister, Marzetta; brothers, Phil and Homer; youngest son, Virgil Rodney II and his mother, Oma and father, Carlos Williams. Virgil Rodney is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 50+ years, Viola Jean (Hogg) Williams, his children, David (Lisa) White and India White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
