

Bill was born in Indianapolis to Robert and Wilmena Coomler on November 7th, 1944. He graduated in 1964 from Franklin Central High School where he participated in football, track, and wrestling. He married Cheyavone McClellen on October 21st, 1967 in Indianapolis. He worked as an electronics technician at the Naval Warfare Center for thirty plus years. He enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard in 1966 where he served in various communications and operations roles until he retired honorably after 24 years. He was a volunteer firefighter in Franklin Township and served as chief of the Bunker Hill Fire Station . He was a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge, and American Legion Post 500. He served on the Board of Directors and coached in the Franklin Township baseball, softball, and youth football leagues.
Bill is preceded in death by his father Robert Coomler, and his mother Wilemna Coomler, and his son-in-law JR Short.
Bill is survived by his spouse Cheyavone McClellen Coomler, his children Michele Short, Jeff Coomler (Stephanie), Greg Coomler (Elizabeth), Dawn Coomler, and Melissa Logan (Sam). Grandchildren Alexandra Coomler, Tyler Asher, Laurin Mappes, Andy Asher, Noah Coomler, Samantha Coomler, Dustin Short, Brendon Coomler, Adam Short, Sam Logan, Keegan Logan, and Brady Logan. Great-grandchildren, Caysen Mappes, Bo Asher, Avery Asher, Lola Coomler, Myla Short, Lincoln Coomler, and Caden Mappes.
A time to gather with friends and family will take place Thursday October 9, 2025 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm with a funeral service with full Military Honors to follow at Little and Sons Funeral Home Indianapolis 4901 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis IN 46237.
