

Visitation will be 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Friday February 5, 2021 at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday 2/5/2021 at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208 with the Minister Gwendolyn Parrish, Assistant Pastor of New Fellowship Family Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crown Hill Funeral Home.
William Madison Hawkins was born in Indianapolis to James C. Hawkins and Sarah E. Hawkins on January 30, 1930. He attended Crispus Attucks High School at Indianapolis. He married Laura C. Jackson on June 20, 1955 in Indianapolis. He graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree from Indiana University-Bloomington and a Doctors of Jurisprudence from Indiana University-Indianapolis. He worked for the Post Office, and worked as a Manager for 7-Eleven grocery, the first black store Manager for Kroger grocery, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Office of Federal Contract Compliance and most notably as an Attorney of Law in his own practice. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served honorably in the Air Force achieving the rank of S/SGT and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was involved in the Indiana State Bar Association, Marion County Bar Association, one of the Attorneys in the establishment of Indiana Black Expo, and a host of other worthy civic and religious organizations.
William is preceded in death by his siblings Sarah Morgan, Dr. Bishop James C. Jr., Ruth Hawkins, Marie Williams, George Hawkins, Kathryn Collum, Rosalie Huggins, and Richard Hawkins; son Stacey T. Hawkins; grandchildren Desmond Dozier and Christine Dozier.
William is survived by his loving wife Laura C.; children Donald Fields (Kathleen), Johnetta Dozier, William M., II (Lisa), and Dr. Kellee M. Hawkins Coleman (Ronald), siblings Jerry Hawkins and Mary Johnson; 10 beautiful grandchildren, and several wonderful great grandchildren.
