

It is with a heavy heart to let everyone special in William Stanley Vernatter‘s life know, he passed away at the age of 89 on Friday, February 7, 2025. He was born in McVeigh, Kentucky on January 10, 1936 to Stanley and Bertha Vernatter. He is survived by Ronald (Ronnie) Vernatter, James (Jim) Vernatter, sister-in-law, Christine (Cricket) Vernatter Schooly, And nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his three children, Mary Miller (David), Carl Cecil (Karen), and Jane Daniel. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, Sarah (Richie), Kelly (Mario), Jimmy (Danna), Claire, David (Carlee ), Annie (Johnny), and Patrick. Bill also adored his great grandchildren Madison, Hope, Lexy, Ava, Isabella, Milo, Nevaeha, Alice, Sylus, Gabby, Marco, Kylo, Levi, Alessandra, Sadie, Arabella, And Peter. Bill also was a great great grandfather to Canon.
Bill was reunited with the love of his life, wife of 64 years, Alice E Ingles Vernatter. Until the day he passed away, he loved her with all of his heart. It was a true love story.
Bill was a true people person. He never met a stranger. He had a way of making everyone laugh and smile whether it was one of his childhood stories, singing, dancing, or his well-known phrase “Yes Alice”or “Hi kids my name is Bill Vernatter.” He always had a smile on his face. Bill was a great family man. He loved telling about childhood adventures, keeping up with his brothers, and childhood friends. He was always helping to teach his family about how important it was to love your family and have fun in life. Bill will be missed by all, but the memories he left behind will never be forgotten.
Bill was so proud that he and his wife, Alice, traveled to many places in the United States and out of country. He loved to share about their travels.
Bill, loved to learn. He always said he would’ve loved to have been a Dr. After retiring from Auto Liv, He went to School and became a licensed massage therapist for 11 years. He was so proud of his accomplishment.
A graveside interment will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2 PM at Crown Hill cemetery. The address is 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208. Followed will be a celebration of his life at Tarkington Tower, 4000 North Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46208.
Bill loved his church and in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 8115 Oaklandon Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46236.
