
James Maybanks Cleiland, Jr., age 89, of Jackson, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born April 2, 1927 to Maybelle and James Maybanks Cleiland, Sr. He retired from Vanity Fair where he was a shift supervisor for 40 years. He also served as a police officer in Jackson and was a U.S. Navy veteran. An avid outdoorsman and horseman, Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Elizabeth C. Walker and Connie C. Outlaw. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Carrie Helen Robinson Cleiland; daughter, Theresa C. (Walter) Crim; sons-in-law, Eric L. Walker, Andrew M. Outlaw; grandchildren, Jamie Coate (Jeff) Jones, Margaret Coate (Scott) Walker; Helen Elizabeth Walker, Eric Maybanks (Trista) Walker, Sally Elizabeth Outlaw, Samuel Cleiland Outlaw; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Williams (El Myra) Cleiland, Samuel Max (Jeanne) Cleiland and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Jackson with the Rev. Alan Gantzhorn officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
