William Eldridge Smith

William E. Smith, born January 1, 1928 in rural Clarke County to Massey and Alma Smith, passed away October 20, 2014 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked as a lineman for rural electric cooperatives in Alabama and Oklahoma, and worked construction in Vietnam. He was pre-deceased by his wife Mona, son Larry, and granddaughter Bobbi Jo Harris Nelson. He is survived by his three daughters, Debra (Chuck) Harris of Jackson, Karen (Rusty) Rossey of Orange Beach, Nancy (Alex) Taranai of Fairbanks, AK, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson Wednesday at 2PM with a visitation from 1:30PM until the funeral hour. Interment will be at Peniel Cemetery in McVay. Mr. Smith loved the country life, chopping wood and visiting with friends and family.
