Hey Nanna, my favorite memory was  listening to all your stories about the old days. I also loved when you told stories about World War II . I am going to miss playing the game checkers with you at the table at Nana's house.

My favorite memories with Nanna is all of the holidays that we were able to  spend together. I have some of my best memories with him during the Christmas season. I always enjoyed listening to his stories during this time.

From the time I could remember you have always been there. You have always been a safe space. There was only joy when you were around.  You loved your family more than yourself and would do anything for them.  
I will cherish all the days we had together and  thank the Lord for giving me 44 years with you.  Just know, I would not have traded those times for all the money in the world.  
So until we see each other again, know there will not be a day that goes by that you are not thought of.

Thank you for always being present at the important moments in my life—my graduations, my birthdays, my wedding. But the most meaningful moment was when you held my sweet Conner for the first time. You truly became his hero. He adored you and loved talking about planes, history, and the Air Force with you. I’ll never forget the day he had an English assignment to write a paper from his hero’s perspective. Without hesitation, he asked if he could call you. I remember sitting there, listening to you both talk for what seemed like hours. He had already gathered everything he needed for the paper, but you two kept going—just two history buffs, lost in conversation.

I always remember sitting on the porch on Sundays at Nana's house talking to you about WWII. I looked forward to hearing the funny stories you experienced, especially the time you thought you saw a ghost in a funeral home in 1943. I still have that paper you helped me write in 5th grade talking about how you helped the Dutch and had to rescue one of the planes they  crashed. I enjoyed spending each other's birthdays getting ice-cream together at the Yard. It was something I looked forward to every year.

Grandaddy,

I will forever cherish our time together—spending nearly every day at your house, watching cartoons, playing, and just being with you. I’ll never forget watching Looney Tunes—you laughed so hard at the coyote and road runner that I ended up laughing at you instead of the cartoon.

I’ll miss our adventures, like visiting the King Edward Hotel, and the little traditions, like your famous "cane tap"  to approve our new cars.

I don’t know who we’ll call now to talk politics. We still laugh about the time you refused to say a certain politician’s name because you thought the government was listening. “You know who I’m talking about… If you’re talking about the same person I am… Yeah, that person.” You got so tickled, and before we knew it, we were all in tears from laughing.

Conner adored you—especially your talks about history, planes, and the Air Force. You were his hero. I’ll never forget when he had to write a paper from his hero’s perspective and immediately called you. You two talked for hours, long after he had all the details he needed.

Christmas won’t be the same without you after 39 years of celebrating together. And I’ll miss you at all of life’s big moments, just as you were always there before.

I will miss you more than words can say. We love you so much.

I'll never forget going to your house after high school and  waiting for mom and pop to pick me up. Those memories are some of my absolute fondest memories in my life. Going to the movies with you, I especially remember Under Seige 2 with Steven Stegal. I remember you cooking supper and it was always so delicious. I always watched you cook, so I could do it just like you,  Watching MacGyver, and watching LA heat with you. You were a huge influence on my life, and I love you. You will always be missed, and I will be inspired by you always.
