She was a dedicated childcare worker for over 40 years, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many children and families. In December of 1973, Alvia married John Kitchens in Jackson, Mississippi, and together they built a loving family.
Alvia is preceded in death by her father, E.L. McFarland, her mother, Lula P McFarland, her husband, John Kitchens, her brother, Claude Potter, her sister, Barbara McFarland, and her son, Josh Kitchens.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Kitchens of Jackson, Mississippi, her sisters, Patricia M Hawthorne of Richland, Mississippi, Linda Desper of Florence, Mississippi, and Betty Worthy of Smithville, Tennessee, as well as two grandchildren.
Alvia's memory will be cherished by her family and all who knew her.
A private service will be held at a later date.
