Bertha Lou Hartzog Thornton, age 94, of Byram, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Visitation will be on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Bertha was born in in 1928 to the late Victor Hugo and Lydia Inez Wilson Hartzog. She was employed at the US Post Office. Bertha was a member of Van Winkle United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Bertha was a part of the Homemaker's Club, Cub Scout and Brownie Leader and sewed for the public.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; sons, Curtis Thornton and Harry Thornton; eight brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Victor Thornton (Cheryl); daughters, Nancy Thornton and Theresa Keith (Donnie); sister, Eva Dale Barlow; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
