

Bettie Nevels Barnett, age 77 passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Bettie was born in Jackson, MS on May 6th, 1947. She was a devoted and loving mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Bettie attended and graduated from Jones County Junior College and Mississippi College.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church attending both Galloway United Methodist and First United Methodist of Clinton, serving in the Methodist Women’s Church Circle. She was a lifelong member of the Mississippi Republican Party and a member of Hinds County Republican women.
Active in her community, Bettie was a member of the Junior League of Jackson, Junior Auxiliary of Clinton, the MS Symphony League Debutante Club, and the Jackson Country Club. She volunteered with the Clinton Community Christian Corporation (4 C’s) delivering Meals on Wheels throughout Clinton and with Stewpot Food Pantry in Jackson.
She loved to garden, travel, and was an avid bridge player. She was fond of her time spent with the Jackson and Clinton Garden Clubs. Bettie was a member of numerous bridge clubs in the metropolitan area and enjoyed the camaraderie of playing multiple times weekly.
She was a lifetime supporter of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, New Stage Theatre and The International Ballet Competition.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Nevels and Marjorie Mounger Nevels; her husband, William Anderson “Bo” Barnett and her granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Sinclair.
Bettie is survived by her brother Dr. Robert “Bob” Nevels of Ridgeland, MS; sons, William Scott Sinclair of Pachuta, MS, Thomas Edward Barnett of Byram, MS; and William Ashley Barnett (Beth) of Florence; daughters, Kimberly Michelle Barnett Cockrell (Jeremy) of Brandon, MS, Leslie Ailyn Barnett Lautenschlager (Robert) of Copperas Cove, TX, and Carmen Adele Barnett Costine (Herman) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Blakely Michelle, Stephen Ashley, David Ira, Ruth Ellyn, Lauren Elizabeth, George Anderson “Andy” and great grandchildren, Keaton, Keely and Kolby, and many loving cousins.
A visitation for Bettie will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM. Bettie will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi 39209.
