Carter Glass Burnside, 94, passed away on July 19, 2024, in Shreveport, LA. Born on June 1, 1930, in Hattiesburg, MS, he was a devoted Christian and a cherished member of Parkway Baptist Church in Clinton, MS, where he actively participated as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and senior adult choir member.
Carter proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service, he pursued education at Mississippi College and Jackson School of Law, which paved the way for a rewarding 30-year career as a State Farm Insurance agent. Beyond his professional life, Carter was deeply involved in his community, coaching track, serving with the Gideons and playing the harmonica at local nursing homes.
He was a loving husband to Frances Burnside and a dedicated father to Karen Ball (Dr. Chris Ball) and Rhonda Tullos (Ben Tullos). His joy was multiplied as a grandfather to Katherine, Tyler (Lindsay), Lauren, Houston (Mary Lauren), and Caroline, and as a great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren. He was also the respected patriarch of a large family including two brothers and nine sisters. His family was the most important thing in his life and he loved them dearly.
Carter had a passion for running, working in the yard, playing the harmonica, and model building. His life was a testament to his faith and his commitment to serving others.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Abdehou, the staff at Chateau at Montclair and the nurses at Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care, compassion and support.
A graveside service will be held on July 23 at Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Jackson, MS, at 11:00 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkway Baptist Church. Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park is assisting the family with arrangements.
