David E Keyes, 91, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi on July 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Jessie S. and the late Catherine Keyes (Miller). Mr. Keyes was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, receiving his B.A. in education, and receiving his ROTC commission as a 2nd Lt in the US Army while at the university. Mr. Keyes was a pharmaceutical representative for Schering-Plough and Merck Pharmaceuticals until his retirement.
He was a dedicated member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church as well as Providence Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Keyes was a veteran of the 2nd World War, serving in the infantry with the 35th Infantry Division in France and Germany. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a 2nd Lt at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his children, Nick (PJ Bounds) Christu of Denver, CO; Paul (Molly Aronson) Christu of Portland, OR; William Andrew "Andy" (Debra) Keyes of Fredericksburg, VA, and James Byron Keyes of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Rachel Gabay (Christu) and Brian Christu, Megan Tilberg(Keyes) and Whitney Eiden(Keyes), Natalie Mae Brandt of Denali, AK, Noel William Brandt (Christan) of Mercer, WI, and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Juanita Gill (Keyes) of Bowling Green, KY, and Zelda Scott (Keyes) of Memphis, TN.
Mr. Keyes was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Poole Keyes; son, Mark David Keyes; and by his brother, Boyd Keyes of Fullerton, California.
The family will be receiving visitors from 6-8PM on Friday, June 15th at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS.
Visitation will also be from 9-10AM on Saturday, June 16th at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1580 Clinton-Raymond Road, Clinton, MS, with funeral services at the church at 10AM.
Graveside services with full military honors will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Clinton, MS.
