Delia Rae Barnes Kelty, 37, of Madison passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 with her loving family at her side following the onset of a sudden illness. Born December 2, 1980 in Jackson, MS, she was the daughter of Franz Michael Barnes and Suzan Dee Wedgeworth Barnes. A Clinton, MS resident since early childhood, Delia moved to Madison with her husband Patrick two years ago.
Mrs. Kelty graduated from Clinton High School, attended Hinds Community College, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics degree from Jacksonville State University in Alabama. A longtime Catholic, Delia was known for her generous nature and desire to help others. An only child, she married the love of her life, Patrick Kelty, one of nine siblings, thus beginning the wild ride that would become nine blessed years of marriage. She and Patrick became business owners of Kelty Tile and Marble two years ago, the realization of their longtime dream.
Delia Rae Kelty was the most special of people, a true individual, with a strong, dynamic, beautiful spirit. Creative and artistically gifted, she loved her work designing beautiful living spaces for clients and friends. Possessed with an offbeat, zany sense of humor, Delia loved to laugh and to share her particular brand of humor with all of us blessed to be a part of her life. The favorite fun-loving “Aunt DeeDee” to her many nieces and nephews, she loved spending time with all of them. Delia loved life, loved God, and loved her family. She liked jamming to music, knitting, corny jokes, and all things 1980s. Delia was a huge MS State and Dallas Cowboys fan. As Patrick is the most ardent of Saints fans, this sometimes caused a bit of friendly ‘friction’ in the Kelty home. Delia had a large circle of friends, some very close and others not as close, but she loved them all unconditionally and was the most loyal and devoted friend.
Delia was preceded in death by her dear mother, Suzan Dee Wedgeworth Barnes, sister Layla Michelle Barnes, grandfather Daniel Wedgeworth (Pe-Paw), grandmother Roberta Barnes (Ma-Maw), and uncle Jeffrey Wedgeworth.
Survived by her beloved husband Patrick Kelty, and her devoted father Franz M. Barnes, she also leaves behind her step-mother Karen Barnes, her adoring grandmother Dannette Walley (BoBo) and step-grandfather Robert Walley, step-great grandmother Marie Murray, aunts and uncles Beverly and Wayne O’Neal, Richard Barnes, Darrell and Marianne Wedgeworth, Shayla and Joe Hall, and Lisa Wedgeworth; cousins Ricky Barnes, Candise Walker, Lindsey Wedgeworth, Addison Wedgeworth, and Ashton Hall; mother-in-law Mary (Mimi) Kelty, step-sister Maria Humer, step-brother Jeff Patterson, numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many extended Kelty, Wedgeworth, and Barnes family members, as well as very special friends Melissa, Becky, Nelia, and Lea Ann. Delia and Patrick’s precious ‘babies’ Slate and Zorro were her pride and joy.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, Clinton Blvd, Jackson, on Thursday, October 18 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton. A private interment will be held at a later date.
