Dorothy Jo was born on March 28, 1938, in Meridian, Mississippi, the oldest of four children born to William Grady and Ruby Greer Smith. The family moved to Jackson when Dorothy Jo was six weeks old. She graduated from the brand new Provine High School in 1956 and continued her education at Mississippi College, where she graduated with a biology degree in 1960. She then went to UMMC to become a medical technologist. She met Roy Lamar Antrim at her beloved Calvary Baptist Church, where they were married on April 28, 1962. She continued to work as a med tech until the birth of her first child, Stuart Lamar. Three more children would be born to complete this family, Sharon Leigh, Susan Lynn, and Steven Glenn. She did not work outside the home during this period, but she reared her children and kept additional children in her home, many of whom consider her a second mom. She also served in many roles at Calvary—Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and choir member. Many of her students have commented about the influence she had in their lives when they were members of her Sunday school class. She and Roy also enjoyed hosting many youth fellowships in their home. All were welcome at the Antrim home!
After the untimely death of Roy in 1991, Dorothy Jo began to work as an administrative assistant at Calvary, where she remained until her death. She took great pride in telling the hospital staff during her last stay that she still worked full time. She was ordained as a deacon in the fall of 2025, and there is no better example of the servant heart of a deacon than Dorothy Jo.
Dorothy Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Ruby Smith, her sister Alice Ann Smith, and her husband Roy Antrim. She is survived by her children, Stuart Antrim of Cleveland, Georgia, Sharon Smith (Ricky), Susan Cook (Jeremy), and Steven Antrim (Kelsi), all of Clinton; her sister and brother-in-law Margie and Don Antrim, her brother and sister-in-law David and Betty Smith, and her brother- and sister-in-law Dave and Jan Clifton, all of Clinton. She also is survived by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Nathan Drew Antrim of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Emily Anne Rayburn of Bryan, Texas, Anna Kathryn Antrim Jones (Andrew), Sarah Elizabeth Smith, Reese Antrim Rayburn, McKenzie Grace Smith, and Brynn Elise Antrim, all of Clinton, and her great-grandson, Connor Lee Jones, also of Clinton. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, but she had a special relationship with her nephews Richard Dale Clifton (Ann) of Starkville, Mississippi, Christopher Keith Coulson (Melody) of Clinton, Mississippi, and William Matthew Smith (Lauren) of Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Dorothy Jo loved her family fiercely, and she enjoyed doing things with and for them, including cooking Sunday lunch every week and hosting family “coffee” each Tuesday. She was present at all extracurricular activities, always up for a road trip to watch her grandchildren “do their thing.” She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, watching the birds and squirrels from her patio, and especially sitting on the porch at Cabin 4 at Trackrock Campground, where she has gone on vacation since 1976. Many family memories were made at this special place.
Dorothy Jo was known by many names—Sister, Mom, Mamaw, Aunt Dot, DJ, Dottie, and Mrs. Antrim. It didn’t matter how you knew her—to know her was to love her. Our loss is difficult, but we know she is happy and whole, rejoicing with her Savior and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.
