

On November 21, 2015 Eleanor Grantham of Laurel, MS was Promoted to the Glory of God at the age of 90. She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband William E. Grantham Jr., her parents, siblings and a host of other family members and friends. When Eleanor was born she was welcomed by her parents Walter and Sippie Ates Burnside and her 9 brothers and sisters. She was born on May 11, 1925 in Biloxi, MS. She grew up and went to school in Jackson, MS. Her life revolved around church and school. At an early age she began going to church at the Salvation Army where she found her love for God and met her future husband. She graduated from Central High School and was one of the first girls in the Marching Band. Eleanor married the love of her life on February 7, 1946. Shortly thereafter she and her husband entered Salvation Army Officers Training School where they both were ordained ministers. During their ministry with the Salvation Army their appointments carried them throughout the United States. She loved serving the Lord and using the talents He bestowed upon her for His Glory. When she and her husband retired from the Salvation Army they moved to Laurel, MS where they opened a chain of convenience stores throughout South Central Mississippi. Later in life she attended First United Methodist Church of Laurel. Eleanor said that the greatest gifts God gave her was her 4 Children. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Russ Grantham and wife Eileen of Lake Charles, LA, Gina Bassett and husband Ray of Laurel, MS, Charlotte Goodman and Duane of Seattle, WA, and Steve Grantham and Mary of Ellisville, MS. She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, November 29th from 4PM to 7 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd in Jackson, MS. Services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd in Jackson Monday, November 30th with visitation at 10AM and service at 11AM. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Cemetery following the service. A Memorial Fund will be set up at First United Methodist Church, 420 N 5th Ave, Laurel, MS 39440 for the Youth Ministries.
