

Elizabeth “Leesha” Goins Powers passed away May 6, 2015 at her home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Leesha was born May 19, 1953 to Lt. Col. James William and Anna Belle Powers in Frankfurt, Germany during her father’s military deployment, but spent most of her childhood in Jackson, Mississippi. She later relocated to Hattiesburg and became a full time mother to her three children.
Leesha was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Oak Grove Ward where she served in many capacities over the years, including in the church youth and children’s programs. She was also a former member of the Hattiesburg Junior Auxiliary, and took joy in charitable work.
Leesha was known for her artistic talents and athletic abilities. She was skilled at drawing, calligraphy, floral arranging, decorating and took great pride in creating beautiful surroundings. She was a competitive swimmer in her youth, and later in adulthood was an avid cyclist and accomplished tennis player. She had a lively sense of humor and an affectionate demeanor.
She is survived by her brother and sister, Jim and Jan Powers, both of Jackson, and her three children, Rebekah Wyckoff of Salt Lake City, Adam Stringer of Jackson, and Warren Peterson of Las Vegas, along with seven grandchildren and one grandchild on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Powers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Lakewood Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
