Mrs. Elta May Greer, 87, of Madison, MS died peacefully November 4, 2010 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS
Visitation will be Sunday, November 7 from 3-6 PM at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home 5235 Robinson Rd. Ext. in Jackson. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, November 8 at the funeral home chapel followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Elta was born March 22, 1923 in Jackson, MS to Forest Beal and Jimmie Lee Smith of Natchez. In 1942, Elta married Royce E. Harms, an Army pilot. She was widowed when Royce went missing in the Pacific Ocean while on a mission during WWII , leaving her with two small sons to raise. In 1946, she married Walter Louis Greer with whom she had one daughter. Mr. Greer died in 1984.
Elta was a homemaker until she went to work for the MS State Health Department. She retired after 20 years of faithful service. Upon her retirement, 2 people were hired to do the work that she had been doing. She loved to paint, cook and care for her beloved Schnauzer dog.
She was a faithful member of Madison United Methodist Church. She loved her Lamplighters Sunday School Class and for many years was the person responsible for sending out cards for all occasions. Her family loved her dearly but gain comfort from their faith that she now rests in heavenly peace.
She is survived by her sons, Royce Edward Harms, Jr. (Dianne) of Jackson and Larry James Harms (Gloria) of Decatur, MS; daughter, Patricia Ann Sullivan (Walter) of Danville, Virginia; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and sister Dorothy Greenwood of Johnson City, TN
