Eula Mae Ruddock “Slim” - On Wednesday, November 24, God grasped her precious hand and said, “Come up higher; well done my good and faithful servant.” She left this life as she lived it, always thinking of others first. Her life was one of loving service to God and to her family and friends. She will live in the hearts and lives of those who knew her knowing that she has entered into the presence of God to enjoy conscious fellowship with the Father and with those who have gone before her.
Eula Mae was born in Magee, Mississippi on February 3, 1927 to Justin and Sally Williams. She was married in 1947 to the late Harry O. Ruddock for 54 years. It was on a date with her soon to be husband that he gave her the nickname “Slim” after the Lauren Bacall character in “To Have and Have Not.” Not only was she a devoted wife, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Eula Mae is survived by her son: Denny Ruddock and his wife, Gail of Little Rock, AR; her daughter Mary (Libby) Harris and her husband, Jim of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Bobby Ruddock and his wife Amy of Lafayette, LA, Melissa Johnson and husband Josh of Welland, Ontario, Andy Cates and wife Christie of West Lake, LA, Scott Harris and Kim Harris of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren: Makenna, Braxton, Jakob, Logan, Hannah, Hallie and Holden. She is also survived by four sisters: Selma Foreman, Sara Sandiford, Earlene Powell, Lucille Broadwater; and two brothers: Leon Williams and Henry Williams.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; Justin and Sally Williams, her sister Laverne Martin and her brother Albert Williams; and grandson, Bradley Shane Ruddock.
She was a long time resident of Jackson, MS, but her most recent years were spent in Hurricane, West VA and Charlotte, NC in order to be closer to her daughter and family. Not only did she love her family, she also loved and cherished her time with God and her church family. She attended and taught Sunday School at Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, MS and her most recent church membership was at Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC where she made many precious memories with so many loving and caring people. Her final days were spent at Charlotte Square Assisted Living under the care of Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, where she not only received love from her family but also the most wonderful care and attention possible. The family wishes to thank them for truly caring for Eula Mae and the entire family, as well. Anyone meeting her fell in love with her beautiful nature. She cared so much for others, often forgetting herself in order to care for others. There was never anything that she would not do for someone in need. She will be greatly missed by the many hearts that she touched in her life here on earth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or www.hpccr.org.
Visitation and a funeral service will be held on Monday, November 29 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home located at 5235 Robinson Road in Jackson, Mississippi. The family will receive friends during visitation hours from 11:00am to 1:00pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00pm. The burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
