

Floyd Ernest Mitchell Jr. passed away on March 7, 2026, at the age of 84. Born May 27, 1941, Floyd was a devoted, steadfast man whose life reflected quiet strength, faithful service, and deep love for his family. He was a resident of Terry, Mississippi.
Floyd served in the United States Air Force from September 13, 1960, to September 11, 1966, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 172nd Cam Squadron. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years to the U.S. Postal Service before retiring, earning the respect of those who knew him through his consistent work ethic and dependable character.
On July 7, 1961, Floyd married Gloria Jean Whitehead in Jackson, Mississippi. Their marriage and family were central to his life and remained a lasting part of his legacy.
Floyd was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Mitchell Sr; his mother, Maudie Mitchell; his wife, Gloria Jean Whitehead; his sisters, Estelene (Ped) Craft, Joann Broussard, Polly Reid, and Betty Brewer; and his grandson, Danyel Williams.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Williams (David) of Terry, Mississippi; his son, Steven Mitchell (Heather) of Terry, Mississippi; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, on March 14, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at Lakewood Funeral Home on March 14, 2026, beginning at 2:00 pm. A Committal Service will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park-South, 430 McClure Rd, Jackson, MS 39212, on March 14, 2026.
