Frances Turner Smira

Mrs. Robert V. Smira, 89, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Funeral services will be 9:30 Saturday (3/25) in the Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home High Street with interment to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 Friday and 9:00 Saturday (3/26) at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smira, the former Frances Turner, was a lifelong resident of Jackson. She was a graduate of Central High School and attended Mississippi College. She was employed for 25 years with The Women’s Missionary Union, serving as President from 1974-1979. She served as a trustee of William Carey College, Hattiesburg, MS for six years. Mrs. Smira was active in volunteer mission projects in the United States and overseas.

Mrs. Smira was preceded in death by her parents, Hassell and Margaret Lee Turner; and her husband, Robert V. Smira. She is survived by her son, Robert T. Smira (Rene) of Monticello, MS; daughter, Marty Perkins (Richie) of Moss Point, MS; and seven grandchildren, Paige Perkins, Meg Russell, Sara Yates, Daniel Smira, Kevin Smira, Scott Smira, and Leah Waddell. Pallbearers will be Buddy Huff, Larry Glass, Eddie Harrison, Vernice Harrison, Daniel Smira, and Stephen Yates.
