Edith Geraldine Saxon Britt passed away from her earthly life suddenly on Tuesday, 9/28/2021 at The Arbor at the age of 93. Geraldine “Jerrie” Saxon Britt was born in Union Church, MS, on December 16, 1927 to the late Leland and Ethel Saxon.
After graduating high school, she attended Co-Lin Junior College, receiving an associate’s degree. She married Floyd Marcel Britt in 1948. They lived in Jackson while working at Blue Cross Blue Shield, later moving to Vicksburg. She lived in Vicksburg for 49 years. She worked as the church secretary of Highland Baptist Church and retired after 43 years of service. She then moved to Clinton to be closer to family and help care for her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for those who would eat, pets of all types, and sewing. She was quite innovative in the kitchen and loved to provide a buffet of food if she knew you were coming to visit. She loved God and was always faithful in serving and teaching her children to love the Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, attending faithfully until her husband’s health failed. Although Alzheimer disease took her away from us many years ago, she kept her smile and laugh that would light up the room and know that you were loved by her, showing what was in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Floyd Marcel Britt; her parents; her sisters, Madeline Saxon Ratliff, and Reba Saxon Magee: and an infant girl.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Carey L. Britt of San Antonio, Tx, Randall M. Britt of Petal, MS; daughter, Rhonda Britt Meadows (Steve) of Clinton, MS; her four grandchildren, Kristen Britt Dickinson, Michelle Britt Yarbrough, Will Meadows and Leland Meadows; 3 great grandchildren, Alexis Hill, Devin Hill, and Haley Yarbrough.
The family gives special appreciation and thank you to the staff at the Rose Garden and the Arbor for their care. She loved all of you and was her extended family that she saw every day for the last 4 years. That was her home of which you made for her, where she was always happy. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
A visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral home at 6011 Clinton Blvd at 10:00, Saturday October 2, from 10-11 AM with the service at 11 AM in the chapel.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.lakewoodfuneraljackson.com for the Britt family.
