
Hazel Walters Matthews, 87 passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 after a short stay at St. Dominic's Hospital. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Wright and Ferguson Funeral home on High Street, with a graveside service following at Gatesville Baptist church cemetery in Crystal Springs.
Mrs. Mathews was born on January 2, 1925 in Hope Well, MS. The 3rd of 9 children. She was preceded in death by her parents; Claude A. Walters and Mary Brock, Siblings; Ralph Walters, James (Marguerite) Walters, Ollie (Roland) Guillot, Winnie (Gatha) Lack, Lois Sandifer, Alma (Walter) Whittington, Ruth (Dudley) Schroen, Reagan (Nell) Walters, her beloved son Thomas Glen Matthews and husband D.C. Matthews of Crystal Springs.
She is survived by 1 Sister; Ola Phares, Sisters-in-law; Christine Burkett, Marcel Burch and a host of nieces and Nephews.
Mrs. Matthews was born and raised in the Hope Well, Crystal Springs Area and later moved to Jackson in 1979 and continued working for SN Thomas and Sons until retiring in January 1990 after 35 years of service.
She was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church until moving to Emeritus at Ridgeland Pointe where she was dearly loved by many.
Her great love was her family and friends. She loved children and babysat for many Jackson Families and took great pride in watching them grow up. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Scarff family and the staff and friends at Ridgeland Pointe for their care and support. She will be greatly missed by all because she was greatly loved.
