On March 2, 2017, Heaven welcomed a gentle giant into its midst with the death of Larry Cole just days before his 65th birthday. In Heaven to greet him were his beloved mother (Alyne Cole), father (Jack Cole), older brother (John Cole), and his infant sister (Robin Jan). He is survived by his sister,
Dr. Susan Cole, of West Monroe, LA, numerous cousins, and his Thursday night poker group. Larry was born at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS on March 5, 1952. He was a graduate of Chamberlain Hunt Academy, Marion Institute, Mississippi State University, and Mississippi College of Law. At each of these schools of learning Larry made friends that would last his lifetime, for it was his friends and his family that were the joys of his life as well as his love for his Miss State Bulldogs. Many an hour was spent playing poker with his buddies and joking with each other as college football season brought tears and cheers with the success (and failures) of each other’s teams. Even when the onset of arthritis severely limited his mobility, Larry was the life of the group with his cooking, his jokes, and his great knowledge of current events. Larry will be greatly missed.
There will be a memorial service as a celebration of Larry’s life on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd. Family visitation at 12:30 and service at 1:00. Casual dress is preferred. No flowers please. Donations to your local animal shelter or Food Bank would be a wonderful way to remember Larry. And be prepared to hear the Mississippi State fight song one more time.
