On Tuesday, December 7, 2021, Lillie walked into the outstretched arms of God. She looked very peaceful & appeared to be in little to no pain. She had turned 97 a few weeks before.
Lillie was born October 24, 1924, in Yoakum, TX. She was the sixth child of Emil Martin Pesek & Emma Chaloupka Pesek. Her great grandparents had come to Texas on their journey form Czechoslovakia to Ellis Island & on a ship to Galveston before making their way to Sweet Home, TX. Lil was from a farming family but said she would rather go to school than pick cotton. She graduated high school as valedictorian & even skipped a grade. After high school, she worked at Tex Tan, a business making leather products until the death of her mother. She quit work to take care of her Pop. At this time, she met Howard Brown who was working for an oil company. They married soon afterwards. Shortly after they married, Howard went to work in Canada & then numerous other places. In 1952 she gave birth to their daughter, Bonnie & 5 years later to their son, Michael.
Moving around so much was a challenge, but Lil rose to the occasion. The kids never missed wonderful birthday celebrations and many fun, exciting times, all with a huge amount of love. A lot of the times she served as mother & father since Howard worked out of town so much. She was excellent at it. We cannot imagine there could be a better mother.
We thought she was an awesome mother, but being a grandmother far exceeded what she had done previously. Her grandchildren were so blessed. There is nothing she would not have done for them.
The last few years of her life were affected by Alzheimer’s. Even though after a while she did not remember the names of family & friends, she almost always seemed to be in a good mood. She loved singing which she did quite often to everyone’s enjoyment. Prior to that, she most enjoyed, cooking, playing scrabble, walking, traveling, dogs and spending time with family.
She is preceeded in death by her parents as well as siblings (Bessie, Alice, Vicky, Father Leo, Ernie, Charles & Jimmy), her husband, Howard, nieces & nephews (Betty, Dennis, & Ray) and a number of in-laws & numerous friends. She leaves behind her daughter, Bonnie Alford (Joe), son Michael Brown (Cylinda), granddaughter Sarah Gilbert (Stephen), grandson (Jace Alford), grandson Matt Brown (Emily), and great granddaughter Taylor Gilbert.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Castlewoods Place where she lived for 7 years. They took such good care of her during that time. We would also like to thank Heart of Hospice.
