Mrs. Lucille Buchanan

Mrs. Lucille Bartz Buchanan died Monday, September 28, 2015, at St. Dominic Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Thrall, Texas, May 18, 1920. She and her husband, Winn Buchanan, made Mississippi their home after his service in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Winn Buchanan, parents, Otto and Caroline Bartz, two brothers, Herbert and Gilbert Bartz, two sisters, Alvina Timon and Gertrude Brooks. She is survived by hers sons, Dale R. Buchanan (Mary) and Steve Buchanan (Karin), two grandchildren, Mike Buchanan (Robin) and Marci Kinchen, 5 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed being the matriarch of five generations and loved all with her whole heart.

Lucille was a longtime employee of Batte Cleaners as well as several boutiques in North Jackson. A meticulous seamstress, she enjoyed sewing for others and going to Dallas and Atlanta markets for the latest in fashion for Jackson shops. Until later years she was a member of Riverside Independent Methodist Church and previously St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

Visitation is 2 PM Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Lakewood Funeral Home followed by a 3 PM graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park.

We want to thank her outstanding caregivers through the years including Melissa Fletcher, Bill Evans, Betty Johnson and Delores Calvin. Your friendship and kindness to Lucille in her later years was very meaningful to us all. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
