Mrs. Muriel Stewart Collins Compere

She was born in Collins, MS on August 25, 1924, the third child of seven and only daughter of Tell and Annye Collins. She married Kenneth C. Stewart (K.C.), also of Collins, on Christmas Day in 1942 and had two daughters and one son. K.C. succumbed to heart disease in 1987 after 45 years of marriage. Muriel met the second love of her life, Roland Searcy Compere of Jackson, and they wed on July 28, 1993. After 16 years of blissful marriage, Searcy passed away at 101 years of age. Muriel followed Searcy and K.C. on Wednesday September 15, 2010 to be with the Lord.

Muriel retired from the City of Jackson MS water dept. after 18 years if service in 1989.

Muriel was an energetic lover of life as well as a dedicated caregiver to both of her husbands. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, faithful church member and enthusiastic Braves fan. She loved to sit on her sun porch enjoying her flower gardens, watching the birds, sunrises and sunsets over the lake.

Muriel and K.C. had three children: Janis Stewart Jordan, Ken Stewart and Melanie Stewart Harlow. She is survived in life by two children, her son Ken and daughter Melanie, both of whom live in Georgia and five brothers Bobby Collins, James Ray Collins, Hascal Collins, Harlan Collins, Richard Collins. Daughter Janis Stewart Jordan preceded her in death in 1986 as well as her oldest brother T.D.Collins. Surviving grandchildren include Beth Giesler and Kandi Myrick, both of Brandon, and Scott Stewart, Nathan Harlow and Ashley Harlow who live in Georgia. Great grandchildren include, Stephen, Savannah , Erica, Jacob, Bryson and Braylon.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of St. Dominic’s Hospital for their heroic efforts in the last days of her life.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 2PM at Wright & Ferguson Chapel in Jackson with internment at Lakewood Memorial Park following the funeral service. Visitation will begin at noon at Wright & Ferguson.
