Nell Herrington Mayo

Nell had a distinguished career as an adjudication supervisor at the V. A Hospital, where she dedicated 30 years of service. She married her first husband, Tommy Ellis Herrington, on February 23, 1951, in Clarksville, TN, and later married Sidney Mayo on July 25, 1979, in Jackson, MS.

She is survived by her loving children: Ann Tomey of Long Beach, Mississippi; Kay Middleton of Columbia, South Carolina; Margaret Parissi of Tampa, Florida; Allen Herrington; Craig Herrington of Lexington, North Carolina; Mark Herrington of Brandon, Mississippi; and Sidney E Mayo Jr. of Brandon, Mississippi, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great- grandchildren.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Early Allen and Bonnie Dickson Allen, as well as her first husband, Tommy Herrington, and her second husband, Sidney Mayo.

Nell was a devoted member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and Pine Lake Baptist Church, where she found community and spiritual fulfillment.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, located at 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi, on February 20, 2026, at 3:00 pm. Nell will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park.
