Nell Weiss

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Northminster Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am at the church.

Nell was born April 24, 1925 in Laurel, MS. Graduated from Laurel High School and moved to Jackson in 1946. She worked primarily in Retail, started with Freeds, Emporium, Giles, and Gus Mayer prior to co-founding Maison Weiss in Highland Village on August of 1975.

She was a member of the Jackson Country Club, Supporter of the Symphony, MS Museum of Art, IBC Competition and numerous clubs and organizations. She was a member of Northminster Baptist Church. She enjoyed painting, and spending time with family, especially her great-grandchildren. Had two special companions after Bernies death. Floyd Sulser and Bob Clinton. The family would like to thank Juanita Jackson for being helpful and kind during health sickness. Thanks to Hospice Ministries for making a difficult time a little less difficult. The members of Northminster Baptist Church, especially Chuck Poole, all of the employees past and present of Maison Weiss that helped make and continue to make her “House of Weiss” the success it is today. Nell loved the city of Jackson and believed in the future of the Capitol City.

She was preceded in death by her husband and co-founder of Maison Weiss, Bernard Weiss and brother Thomas Jerry Landrum. Survivors include her daughter Beverly Speder (Fred) of California; Grandsons Ken Szilasi (Tracy) and John Szilasi III of Germany; granddaughter Sandra Williams (Jay) of Florida; Great-Grandchildren Gabrielle Black (Brandon) of Jackson, Kendall Szilasi now at TCU, Maya Szilasi , Lena Szilasi, John Szilasi IV all of Germany. Also Conner Williams of Florida and Lauren Williams of Florida; great-great-grandchild Keegan Black of Jackson; Sister-In-Law Dorothy Landrum and nephews Jerry David Landrum and Michael Thomas Landrum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northminster Baptist Church, Hospice Ministries, Polycystic Kidney Foundation or MORA.
