Shirley Martin Hare, 90, of Raymond, Mississippi, passed away in her home on August 02, 2025. She went to sleep beside the love of her life, TJ Hare, and woke up in Heaven looking straight into the eyes of Jesus Christ, her LORD. She was greeted with a big hug and kiss by her daughter, Bobbye Anne Hare Hawkins. Shirley was born May 9, 1935, to Abe and Jennie Martin. She had five sisters and one brother.
On May 9th, 2025, Shirley celebrated her 90th birthday around family and friends that came by that day. She grew up in a large family and attended Forest Hill High School, where she dated and married TJ Hare. They had 73 years together of love, laughter, and watching their family grow to 5 generations. They had 4 children, Lynda Hollingsworth, TJ Hare, Jr., Bobbye Anne Hawkins, and Sandy Clark.
Shirley worked at School Pictures after she and TJ married. She and a friend started a sandwich business that delivered sandwiches to local tote sum stores. She enjoyed baking, and family gatherings. It was very important to her for the Martins and Hares to have annual family reunions. She and her sisters would always organize the Martin Family Reunion and make sure everyone could attend.
Shirley was the bookkeeper of TJ’s company, TJ Hare Plumbing. She kept their books in good order, just as well as trying to keep TJ and all her family in good order! Shirley loved to bake a homemade pound cake and kept it on the kitchen bar of their home on Grandview Cove for TJ, family and friends that came by for a visit. She loved the home TJ and she built in 1974. They both enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, taking long rides and checking on their children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed hunting and fishing together at their farm in Bolton. Shirley enjoyed hunting and fishing until she was 88 years old.
TJ and Shirley were very close to their neighbors on Grandview Cove. They enjoyed watching out for each other, baking and sharing home-cooked meals.
The joy of Shirley’s life was visiting with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her many nieces, nephews, and friends. She would often call them to check on them when she had not heard from them in a while.
Shirley was a member of Raymond Road Baptist Church and while she was unable to attend any longer, she enjoyed frequent visits from the Senior Adult Coordinator, Deborah Nichols, and “the Sunday School ladies!”
Faith, Family and Love were all so very dear to Shirley’s heart. She loved her LORD and Savior deeply and we will always remember her “thanking her good LORD for another day!”
Her favorite Bible verse was: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” ~2 Timothy 4:7 She lived out this verse fighting the good fight of life in the ups and downs, and she kept the faith even in the midst of hard trials.
Her faith became sight this morning, and “now there is in store for her a crown of righteousness, which her LORD, the righteous Judge, will award to her on that day—and not only to her, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.” ~2 Timothy 4:8.
Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew her—and those who knew her loved her, because she made sure they knew she loved them!
We love you Sugar, Mom, Mammaw, Nanny & Aunt Shirl!
