Tatnall’s experience touched the PGA in many ways: a consummate professional golfer, Tom was a consultant with Ridgeland’s SkyHawke Technologies, LLC (SkyGolf) for more than six years, an adjunct faculty member for the PGA Education Program, and operated Tatnall Associates LLC and its Golf Expert Group division. Tom was an officer or committee chairman in three PGA sections and has attended 37 consecutive PGA Annual Meetings as a delegate or alternate. For his service to the PGA community, Mr. Tatnall was the winner of the 2006 PGA of America’s national Horton Smith Award for outstanding and continuing contributions to PGA education. In 2010, Tom was awarded Amateur Athletic Union Judith Belsky Memorial Award, “For Outstanding Service to the Sport of Golf.”
Tatnall’s earlier career included work as golf professional, director of golf or general manager at courses in Illinois and South Carolina. In Mississippi, he served the Vicksburg C.C. and Northbay G.C. While completing his PGA apprenticeship, he earned a BS in Business from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Economics from the University of Chicago.
A loving father and husband, he is survived by his wife, Pamela Means Tatnall, his children Tracy Tatnall Segal, Todd George Tatnall, and Sarah Dee Tatnall, and his grandchildren Adin David Segal, Talia Miriam Segal, Solomon Cole Tatnall, and Rosalie Beth Tatnall.
No one can ever say that Tom lost his battle with cancer. He had as much courage, strength, and faith as a soul can have; he lived his life on his own terms and in the face of insurmountable odds fought the disease valiantly, beating it back well beyond the period that he was told he had left to live.
Many will mourn the loss of this amazing man but we can celebrate a long and fruitful life spent in the game he loved. He was a great golf professional who made golf a better game for thousands of golfers that he touched in his 46 years as a PGA member. More importantly, he was a man who gave everything he could to his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. To those who love him most, we can be consoled by the knowledge that we are better for having known him, and that he is now in a place where the fairways are lush and green, the sun always shines and the putts always drop.
