Veta was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on July 10, 1939, to Lawrence Edward and Doris Toole. She had two siblings: Bobbie Sue Toole and Lawrence Edward Toole II (Eddie). After graduating from Central High School in 1958, she attended Hines Junior College before starting work at a dress shop in downtown Jackson. The dress shop was near the F. W. Woolworth store where she met her husband, Jerry F. Rich. They were married for 39 years before his death from cancer in 2000.
Veta lived all over the United States as Woolworth transferred them frequently. She spent the majority of her adult life in Texas and Nevada. While she worked in detail oriented jobs such as banking,
bookkeeping, and library services, her great love was crafting and teaching people how to make things with their hands.
She is survived by her children; Karen Ann Walo (Bill) and Kevin Clay Rich (Ruthie). She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Katherine Grace Walo, Jacob Matthew Walo, Jericho James Rich, Sadie Blue Rich, and Keifer Rich. Her brother, Eddie Toole (Karyn), cousins Ron Polk (Ursula) and Billy Polk are residents of Jackson and Madison.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry F. Rich, and her parents Lawrence Edward Toole, Sr. and Doris Toole, and her sister, Bobbie Sue Toole.
A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park South on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local assisted living or care home.
