

Virginia was born on December 19, 1948, in Jackson, Mississippi, to parents Lillian Charlotte Spain Salter of Jackson and John William Salter, Sr., of Philadelphia, MS. She grew up in Port Gibson, MS, and was married there to Ronald Collins Selden, also of Port Gibson, on May 29, 1982. Virginia received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the Mississippi State College for Women (now, Mississippi University for Women) and taught special education and elementary school for a number of years in the Jackson Public Schools System, at Powell Middle and North Jackson Elementary Schools.
Virginia loved to play the piano, continuing to take lessons and perform until very recently. She also loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren while doing so.
She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her older brother, John William Salter, Jr.. She is survived by husband Ronald Selden of Jackson, MS; twin brother, Jim Salter, of Zachary, LA; sister Shirley Salter Clark, of Carthage, TN; son, Mason Spain Turner of Oakland, CA and Las Vegas, NV, as well as her son-in-law, Ricardo Nuñez and three beloved grandchildren, Eli Turner- Nuñez, Eva Turner- Nuñez, and Avi Turner- Nuñez, all of Oakland, CA.
