

Wayne Robinson Melton, 76, died July 11th, 2022. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14th from 10 am – 11 am at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson with graveside services immediately following.
He was born August 2, 1945 in Durant, MS to Irby and Audrey Robinson Melton. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1964 and went on to Delta State College, graduating with a BS in Accounting. In January 1970 he joined the US Marine Corps becoming a Naval Flight Officer. He served proudly and told many stories of his “flying days”. In 1974 he moved back to Indianola and began working for Lewis Grocery Company where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Robinson. They were married July 1, 1978 and moved to Clinton, MS where he worked for Desoto Manufacturing Co. and St Dominic Hospital before starting his own business in Yazoo City, Delta Tire & Battery for almost 40 years with his long-time office managers Deedra Woods and Christy Leverett.
He is survived by his daughters, Brooke Elliott (Mark) Meridian, MS; Kim Tarver (Keith) Greenville, MS; Shari Kelly (Carnis) Madison, MS; Susan Sosebee Richburg, Jackson, MS; son Geoffrey Melton (Elisa) Meridian, MS; sister Debra Bounds (Bobby) Biloxi, MS; Grandchildren, Emily Tarver Wade, Erin Tarver Brunson, Ben Tarver, Roper Richburg, Cory Marter, Salone Elliott, Sydney Melton, Anna Melton and Geoffrey Melton, 5 great grandchildren and a loyal border collie, Sissy.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of more than 32 years, Phyllis.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pocahontas Baptist Church.
