William Mathews Jr.

Born to William and Freeda Matthews on October 20, 1931, in Arkansas City, AR. Husband of Shirley Pullen Matthews. Father of Susan Matthews Hennington (Thomas), William Dowe Matthews, III (Robin), Carol Matthews Shields, and Joseph Rudolph Matthews. Grandfather of Halley Hennington Eagan, Thomas Allen Hennington, Jr., William Dowe Matthews, IV, Kenneth Matthews, Gabrielle Leilani Shields, Andrew Rusk Hennington, and Joseph Rudolph Matthews, Jr. Brother of the late Freida Anne Matthews Bailey, Kay Matthews Bailey, Patty Matthews Fraser, and Larry Jackson Matthews; brother-in-law to Carolyn Pullen Hudson, Janice Pullen Galey, the late Howard Bailey, the late Boyce Gene Bailey, the late Donald Fraser, and Love Turpin Matthews. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and their children. Mr. Matthews served in the U.S. Navy and was a Federal employee for over 38 years; he began his civilian career with the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired from the Federal Aviation Agency in September, 1990.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in downtown Jackson, MS, at 350 High Street, on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, beginning at 10 AM, with a funeral service to immediately follow in the Funeral Home chapel at 11 AM. Interment at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS, 39209.
