

Ann Smith Murchison, born in Jackson, TN, on February 3, 1942 to Robert Bowlin and Mabel Dodds Smith, passed away Wednesday morning, May 25, 2016 at 6:50 a.m. She was preceded by her husband of 50 years, Richard Lee Murchison. Her greatest accomplishments in life were her son, Scott, who is completely filled with the Holy Spirit and her abundance of friends from Jackson, Memphis, Nashville, Hawaii, Florida and North Carolina, the Religion for Life Sunday School class, the First United Methodist Church, the Evergreen Garden Club, the Mutual Improvement Club, her bridge buddies, the Jackson High School Fine ’59 class, the Jackson Symphony League, and her special friend, Charles Rhodes. Ann spent the first 20 years of her professional life as a fifth grade school teacher in the Memphis City Schools and as an initial teacher with the newly-established CLUE (Creative Learning in a Unique Environment) Program for gifted children for the Memphis City Schools before she retired.
Ann is survived by her beloved son, Scott, her loving brother, Bob Smith, her sister-in-law and best friend, Glynda Smith, and her nieces Debbie Shelton and Sherri Smith Knoll, as well as by her great nephews Tyler and Tanner Smith and Randy McCarter and great, great neice Kari McCarter, as well as her extended family of Blake and Kayce Murchison, Charles Franklin and Ethel Murchison and her honorary ‘daughters from other mothers’, Mona Miller, Sue Harvey and Kaye Hill. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers, Mary Nelson, Vennie Williamson and Andrea Hickman.
In lieu of flowers, Ann and the family request that any donations be made in Ann’s name to First United Methodist Church of Jackson, The American Cancer Society, RIFA or the charity of your choice.
Visitation and Remembrance times: Saturday, 12 – 2:30 at FUMC, Remembrance of Life 3-4 at FUMC, followed by a family reception
