

The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Tipton was born in Jackson, TN and spent her entire 97 years here. She was the widow of the Ira M. Tipton who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Cook; brother, James M. Cook and grandson, Drew M. Tipton.
Mrs. Tipton was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) downtown until the early 60’s when she and her family became charter members of Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). While there, she was instrumental in bringing an entire refugee family from Vietnam to Jackson.
Mrs. Tipton retired from the Telephone Company (Bell South) in the ‘80s after 35 years of service. She was also a Grey Lady at the hospital for many years. Mrs. Tipton was blessed with a wonderful love for music. She played the piano and organ in church off and on throughout her life. She also had a beautiful soprano voice that brought happiness and peace to many through her singing solos and with a trio of Christian friends from church.
Mrs. Tipton is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Suzanne Tipton Latham; son, Bobby Tipton; grandson, Brad Latham (Cindy); great granddaughter, Bethany T. Latham; and step granddaughter, DiAmitri Kringle.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1050 North Parkway, Jackson, TN 38305 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
