

Effie Mae Brill left to join her heavenly family on August 6, 2010; more than 101 years after beginning her earthly journey on November 11, 1908. She was born the first child of Ancil Sawyer Thompson and Margie Horn Thompson in Coleta Community of Clay County, Alabama. Her parents, 2 brothers, Milton Irving and Alton, and 2 sisters, Edna and Mary Alice preceded her in death. Her loving husband of 54 years, Morris L. Brill Sr. passed in 1988. She is survived by 1 son Morris L. Brill Jr. and his wife Joyce, grandchildren Morris Lee Brill III of Tampa, FL and Lori Lynne Morley of Decatur GA.
There are four great grandchildren. Numerous loving nieces, nephews and good friends became her extended family over her long life.
Effie met and married her husband Morris in 1934. He was one of the original employees of the Tennessee Valley Authority, and they lived throughout the Tennessee River basin several years before settling in Jackson in the mid 1940’s. Effie Mae, a life-long United Methodist became a member of First United Methodist Church in Jackson and has participated in Church activities more than 70 years. She was a member of the Dick Nunn Sunday School Class and served several years as church hostess. Effie and Morris operated “The Shamrock” and “The Hub” for almost 20 years. Her love of flowers and her green thumb gave her great pleasure and was shared with many friends and family. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing and needlework much of her life.
The family will gather for viewing at 3:30 PM on Sunday, August 8th. Friends are invited to join them from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the George A Smith and Sons North Chapel. A service celebrating her life will begin with the family receiving guests in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church on the corner of Church and Chester streets beginning at 10:00 AM Monday with the service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Nephews: Roger Paul Brill, Alton Taylor Thompson, Leon Dean Barker, Marty Hood, Milton Irving Thompson, and Rod St.Clair will serve as active Pall Bearers, and the Members of the Dick Nunn Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pall Bearers.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Jackson, or a Charity of the Donor’s choice.
