

Mr. Williams was born on May 14, 1932, in Madison County to Joe Howard and Elease Sanders Williams. He attended schools in Madison County. At the age of sixteen, he enlisted into the army and finished his training at Fort Jackson, S.C. In August 1950, Mr. Williams was among the first replacements sent to the Far East after the Korean War began, proudly serving his country in front line combat for thirteen months. During that time he earned multiple awards and recognitions for his outstanding performances in many of the major battles of the Korean War. After completing his military service, Mr. Williams earned his GED and attended Union University focusing on theological and religious studies. He was employed for 35 years by Consolidated Aluminum in Jackson, Tennessee, as a supervisor.
Mr. Williams, a member of Oakfield Baptist Church, made a profession of faith in Christ Jesus at an early age and remained a devoted follower of Christ throughout his lifetime. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family will cherish the memory of his exemplary life and will strive to carry on his Christian legacy.
Mr. Williams leaves behind his devoted wife of 64 years, Nancy Dyer Williams; four daughters, Pam Giles (Troy) of Oakfield, TN; Lynn Qualls (David) of Collierville, TN; Emily Bratton (Chris) of Lexington, TN; and Robin Turner (Chris) of Oakfield, TN. Cherishing his memory are eight grandchildren, Tripp Giles, Danny Giles, Cassie Smith, Will Turner, Hunter Bratton, Camilla Bratton, Paige Mueller, and Robert Turner; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Jo Ringold and Dot Witherspoon; three brothers, Leon Williams, Johnny Williams, and Murray Williams; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents; his sister, Jean Ford; and his brother, Charles Howard Williams.
The family deeply appreciates all of his caregivers during his hospital stays, transitional care, and final days at home.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 11 am - 2pm at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel with interment following in Oakfield Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was a passionate supporter of foreign missions throughout his life, therefore the family requests all memorials be contributed to the mission fund at Oakfield Baptist Church.
